Haigh Mansions

Went for a walk rather later in the day. I always walk past these Mansions and thought I would share them with you and the history behind them. They are located along the Esplanade at Henley Beach.

The building is listed as Local Heritage Place. The site was purchased by Alfred E. Haute, founder of iconic South Australian confectioner - Haigh’s Chocolates. After purchasing the land he immediately commenced building the Mansions which comprised of 8 units. They provided beach side accommodation for the Haigh family, friends and associates as well as being available for lease. The art deco influenced building reflects a type of speculative building that occurred in the prosperous 20’s.
