Melancholy

After showers overnight, the sun shone for a while early in the day. As I walked in the Lake Ainsworth heathland I was intrigued by a low-pitched resonant 'oom' sound. I traced it to this White-headed Pigeon. My bird guide describes its call as 'gruff melancholy ooms'. We don't see them much on the coast - they are more common in rainforest on the nearby Alstonville Plateau.
