Buns

A massive day yesterday and I'm only just recovering. Up very bright and early and off to Millstreet in North Cork to co-host a workshop, gathering stories from the wells, in particular the local well, Tubrid.  The workshop was held in the Library, a Carnegie building and beautifully light an airy. We had 14 interested souls - one lady explained at the end that she'd just come in at 10.30 to borrow a book and was still here two hours later.  A lovely crowd with some fascinating stories of cures, eels and the BMV.  We were thrilled to meet Seán, the local historian, who was delightful and has his own radio programme Just as we were leaving he whipped out his recorder and did an impromptu interview, complete with photos!
A few of us went on the well afterwards - it was freezing and blowing a hoolie and the blessed eel did not appear.
Then Marie and I went back to see James, the custodian of the well and never has a cup of tea and a bun tasted so good! We drank cup after cup in his wonderfully snug parlour and hoped to persuade him to be our anchor man and pivot in the documentary.  What a lovely gentle man, empathetic and deep, he actively cultivates the well to be a place where people can be safe, and go for healing and solace. He makes a good cuppa too. The only thing he warned us about was his cockerel, - he is not your friend -  and armed with a badminton racquet kept at the front door just in case, we ran for our cars.
Marie and I then went for a debrief and gathering of thoughts in the local cafe and drank more tea. I think we overstayed our welcome for  they were closing around us!
Then a long drive home. Daphne (GPS) always takes an incredibly scenic route down tiny roads and in fairness I met no traffic whatsoever.
Well this project could work and today (Saturday possibly) I have been struggling again with the application - it's like War and Peace but with quotes (monetary ones).
