Breakfast View

After all yesterday's exertions we were able to take a leisurely start (for once) at our AirBnb, able to enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast of fruit followed by flat bread and dahl. The food throughout the trip has been amazing, from top hotels right through to tiny roadside cafes. I guess it's the advantage of having so much fresh produce to hand, plus a really strong culture around preparing food well, with great taste.

We booked a taxi to take us to Bentota, the wedding venue, a three and a half drive from Ella, with the most beautiful scenery for the first hour, through the mountains, before taking the Southern Expressway. After all the crazy traffic that is everywhere here, it was strange to be driving on an almost deserted, very modern dual-carriageway, barely a tuk-tuk in sight.

It was emotional arriving at the wedding hotel at pretty much the same time as the coach that had ferried most of the guests down from Colombo, flying in from literally all over the world. I got to meet people from the States and Australia who I'd not seen in very many years. I try not to think too much about the carbon footprint of this wedding!

As ever, lots of shots to choose from, but this is a reminder of the view from the balcony at our AirBnb, looking out across to Little Adam's Peak, where we took our first hike of the day yesterday. I spent a lot of time taking in this scene. The hill country is incredibly lush.
