Saul Leiter - An unfinished world

Visited Saul Leiter exhibition at MK Gallery today. Many black and white, but he was also an early adopter of colour film.
I liked some of his images, but not all. He took some through steamed up windows or rain spattered windows. He also liked to shoot through objects in the foreground, adding a blur to focus your eye on the scene behind. You have to remember in the 50s he was shooting on film which needed more of a technique! It’s all too easy to get used to being able to manipulate digitally. I don’t really like his abstract paintings either. On the whole I prefer Vivienne Maier. I’ll have to revisit in order to see if a second viewing brings greater understanding!
