Froglets

(Last entry for the cycling holiday is up - 22/6; check Sunday 23rd for explanation)

Came in this morning and noticed a tiny little frog sitting on one of the lilypads. There were also two damselflies flitting about - unfortuately, one was an azure and the other a red, so there is probably not much chance of them mating. Hopefully there were others there while no one was watching and we might get a few more next year.

During the afternoon, whilst transplanting some lupins into bigger pots, I noticed another small frog sitting on a leaf in cover. I fetched my wife to see it, and we began to notice others - about a dozen in all, moving among the weeds. There were also some bigger frogs - not full grown, and probably from last year's hatching.

The little frogs were quite difficult to photograph, as they were behind various weeds and I had to kneel by the pond's edge, supporting myself on one hand, leaving only the other to hold the camera and take the picture and as the camera weighs a ton, there were some shaky shots. I also had to use a wide aperture to get a decent shutter speed, as the sun had gone off the pond, hence only one of the three in the picture is in focus.

Sonny is appreciating being home. Got him a nice piece of beef for Sunday roast and he made lots of appreciative noises as he cleared his plate. Nice to have him home. He worked on the champagne bar at Ascot last week, and was demonstrating how to pour a glass of champagne with an unopened bottle of sparkling wine (in case you think we have bottles of champagne on tap!)
