Forging ahead

We had an interesting morning having a tour of Pattersons Spade Mill, a National Trust property that dates from the mid 1800s. The Patterson family had been making spades from the 1720s!

The reason we’d gone along for the tour was to purchase a belated Christmas present for the Ards Man of a day’s forging and metalworking. He’ll be hammering away one one of these anvils sometime soon! Time will tell what fun iron object he produces. :-)
