On Some Days

Homeward Bound . . . Simon & Garfunkel

We got to sleep a little later with breakfast at eight am.  Last nights meal was again delicious.  After breakfast we had the group photo and there was lots of hugging as we said goodbye.  The Cardrona Valley was also a gold mining area.  The hotel dates from 1863 but was restored in the 1980's.  It is iconic in New Zealand.  I am very glad to have stayed in it.
The drive from Wanaka to Haast was glorious with such clear skies the mountains were spectacular beside Lake Hawea or Lake Wanaka.  This weekend is the Warbirds over Wanaka and some of our group are going to it.  We didn't stop for photos because we were a big drive home.  With the help of cellphones we managed to met up with Rotorua friends who were travelling south to Wanaka for the show.  They were sitting in sunshine at Lake Matheson looking at the main blip.  They had been for the short walk around the lake.  One day I will do the walk and get the classic reflection photo of mountain in lake.  This is Mt Cook/Aoraki which I had seen in the distance from the other side. The cafe did good  food and so fueled up we continued our drive up the west coast then inland and north to home.  747 kms.  It was a hot drink and collapse into bed.
