Ciclone

March is cyclone season in Mozambique so planning domestic travel can always lead to complications. The rain was heavy this morning and I had to sprint to the breakfast room as it’s around ten minutes’ walk from the bedrooms. Then a taxi driver battled through flooded streets to drop me at the airport where I was meeting colleagues ahead of a trip with the first stop as Quelimane in central Mozambique.

Amazingly given the weather and the fact that the national airline is often panned for its reliability, we departed pretty much on time. The approach to Quelimane was hazy and bumpy but I spotted a lovely rainbow penetrating through the clouds below. From Quelimane we met a project vehicle that spirited us a couple of hours away to the town of Mocuba, our base for a few days.

Mocuba has various bars and nightclubs pumping their beatz late into the night. This was my main impression of the first evening in Mocuba.
