Derelict Palace

Today I was scanning some old photos from Berlin in June, 2003. Hard to believe that was 21 years ago. I came across this one of the former Palast der Republik with its golden windows. In 2003 it was derelict, full of asbestos, and it was decided to demolish the building. That did not take place till 2006.

I happened to see an article this afternoon about the new Berlin Palace and how it will house a new history museum. The original palace was badly damaged during WW11 and later demolished. That is a very short history of what happened on this very historic site.
