New arrivals

It was a sunny, warm and beautiful Easter Saturday. J and I had just finished our brunch - P made rosti, which we ate with poached farm eggs - when P rushed in from the garden to tell us the sheep and lambs were arriving in the the field beside our house. This is an annual event: the ewes and new lambs stay close to the farmhouse for a while, then are moved down here when they are stronger, so they always arrive bouncy and enthusiastic to explore their new surroundings. We were not quick enough to see them disembark, but they were still close to the gate in a large group, and it was only minutes before the lambs were running to the gate and round the perimeter. I took some closer photos with the camera, and many more when we walked around the village looking at spring flowers and leaves, but I've not yet had time to sort and process them into the collage J has requested. This phone photo shows them spread across their landscape, following the lines of the hedgerows and hills.

After our walk we made the cream egg brownies which have become one of J's seasonal traditions in recent years. I find them too sugary and gloopy, but she loves them and my usual brownie recipe allows for a small tin of plain ones too (if chocolate brownies can ever be considered plain), so we both enjoyed an indulgent afternoon tea.
