controlled burn

Yet more wood smoke.
This time from the 'controlled burn' the bush fire brigade conduct every year in an attempt to burn off leaf and tree litter that causes such a problem if a bushfire was to come through the area.

It sparks! a debate every year too as the burn usually coincides with early spring when the bush is getting into full mating swing and a fire going through -controlled or not- must wreak havoc on the nest sites and babies.
This year though it seems to be much earlier in the season so perhaps it will work both ways, in a good way.

And on a sombre note, I've just heard that 19 fire fighters lost their lives fighting a huge bushfire in Arizona today. Whether it be elite teams or the local volunteer brigade, they do an amazing and dangerous job.
