Four gardens

We visited four fabulous gardens in Kyoto today, all variations on traditional Zen gardens which are designed to assist in meditation. For my main photo, I’ve chosen a small interior display at Shisen-do Temple.

The first extra shows Mountain Cherry in bloom at Tenryu-ji Temple. Second extra is ‘raked sand’ garden at Ginkaku-ji Temple, the Silver Pavilion.

Many Kyoto gardens are well publicised World Heritage sights, attracting huge numbers of visitors. My third extra was photographed in the small and less-visited Renge-ji Temple. Our group was able to spend much time in quiet appreciation of the garden.
