The Anderson Boat Lift in Cheshire.

We made our first visit today to this famous boat lift which lifts boats between the river Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal.
The lift elevates boats some 50 feet up from the river to the canal.
Built in 1875, it worked for 100 years. Due to corrosion it was closed in 1983. Restoration was carried out in 2001/2 and it reopened in 2002.
Built originally for the transport of salt from Winsford later used for the transport of coal and pottery products.
We joined one of the cruise boats, descended from the canal down to the river for a cruise up to Nantwich.
It is one of only two working boat lifts in the UK, the other is at Falkirk in Scotland.
