First To Arrive

Today felt like spring had finally arrived. Warmish and sunny.

My first sighting of the season of a purple martin. These birds nest in colonies and depend on man for housing. This one is most likely returning to the colony where it was raised and is probably a scout. Hopefully it will guide others in the coming weeks. They over winter in South America, mostly Brazil, so quite a journey. They are a beautiful iridescent blue.

Extra: Staking Claim. A tree swallow looks like it's interested in this nesting box. It's the same box I saw the bluebirds looking at last week. More iridescence.
