A very Indian elephant

A beautiful, and surprisingly life-like, elephant.

I've seen rather more African ones, but today had a very much Indian flavour. The place was Dartington Hall, and the event a festival inspired by Indian artist Rabindranath Tagore.

I'd never heard of him, but he sounded like quite a guy - the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913, and the author of the Indian (and Bangladeshi) national anthems.

Former poet laureate Andrew Motion described it as "a bit of it is sort of hippyish, nut cutlets, wearing shoes made of carrot and all that... but there is a profound and important philosophical alternative being suggested here, which is seriously to do with thinking about the environment, neighbourliness, community".
