Hooded Mergansers

Slow day today….not too nice out.    Did not notice any solar eclipse through the clouds.   (It was only 17% in Vancouver anyway)  Did manage to take care of all the bird feeders,, did make pancakes…never too many for Maple…. Kirsten did some much needed vegetation trimming .  Peter hooked up our internet extender and there has been no complaints.       Had a little walk on the beach but Mr. and Mrs. Merganzer is about all I saw, fishing…. just a bit “painterly.

some fun facts: these small ducks can fly at almost 50mph.  the male is a drake, the female a hen, young are ducklings.  They can catch fish underwater….but swallow them on the surface.  some refer to hooded mergansers as frog ducks because of the long guttural call heard from far away.

Tomorrow we’re having a birthday party!
