A Meandering Life...

Derelict Week 398 :: DS397 :: Coal Hole

A short while ago I Blipped the back alley behind my daughter's old miner's cottage in New Marske. Today I revisited the alley and found a little of its past.

My Blip today shows a little door at shoulder height in a wall of a back yard. It has been long abandoned for its purpose in life and many other cottages have these doors bricked up.

This is where coal man, using a horse and cart, would have delivered sacks of coal.

The main plant growing in the wall is Kenilworth Ivy, aka toadflax or Cymbalaria murilis.
