Valaris 247

This is the jack-up rig 'Valaris 247' entering the forth with the help of three tugs (2 visible here). It was photographed early evening as the light was fading.

Earlier in the afternoon I photographed the other part of the equation off Burntisland, the 'Xin Yao Hua' (see 'extra'),  The Xin Yao Hua is a heavy lift, semi-submersible transport vessel.  Here it is taking water into its tanks to submerge the central section of the deck.  Tomorrow, the rig will then be floated into place above the submerged deck and held in place there as the water is pumped out causing the transporter to  rise again, lifting the rig with it.

The rig will then be more securely anchored to the deck before they sail away halfway round the world to Australia.
