Woodpeckers Peck Wood?

Warm enough today that even some turtles were out of the water. Tree swallows were going berserk, obviously enjoying the elevated temperatures, possibly finding insects on the wing.

I spotted a northern flicker, a woodpecker, fly down to the ground and begin to forage in the earth. Woodpeckers are supposed to peck wood, aren't they? The clue's in the name. However, not this one, it prefers ants and beetles it digs up.

I watched it for quite some time, hoping maybe I'd catch it flying off and see its yellow tail feathers, but I wasn't patient enough this time. I got distracted by a splash from the inlet and turned to see the muskrat climb onto a log.
