Holiday

We have had a few days away from home. We drove down to the West Country and enjoyed seeing the spring countryside. On the way down we lunched at an out of the way pub which we discovered many years ago and were pleased to find it was still just as good.
We stayed at a hotel not far from my sister’s home and on the second day we picked her up and went to Bishops Lydeard where we boarded the West Somerset Railway with its steam engine and ancient carriages. It chugged along through the beautiful Somerset countryside. The banks were covered with primroses and there were vivid yellow fields of oil seed rape. We got off the train at Dunster in pouring rain, planning to have lunch there, but as the train disappeared down the track the friendly station master told us that the town was thirty minutes walk away. With the heavy rain and me not walking well, it sounded a daunting prospect so instead we waited until the train come back, an hour to wait! We had a coffee, and the station master told us his life story, and the time soon passed. We left the return train at Watchet where we found a fish and chip lunch in a cosy hostel and walked alongside the harbour.
On the third day we went with Judith to meet her family in a child friendly restaurant. Two lovely children and we so enjoyed seeing little Dexter again, such a bright three year old.
From there we drove home, back up the excellent A303. It has been so good to get away, albeit for a very short time.
