Wildlife in the suburbs

Praying mantis or preying mantis? For a long time, and I'm pleased to say a long time ago, I thought it was the latter, even when they weren't munching on a hapless insect.

It was a treat to see this on this glorious autumn morning with plenty of heat still in the sun. Steps down into the garden were tentative but I've definitely turned the corner with the weirdo knee. Thank you for all your well wishes which helped a lot.
