The dropped stitch

By Bodkin

Sand beach, Shetland

An excursion to the beach to meet up with friend J.

We had watched her walking down to the shore on the far side of the bay, wrapped up warm in florescent jacket and wellies but she didn't come straight across to join us. She was gathering rubbish, meticulously picking up each tiny piece of plastic. We were prepared with bags and all 3 spent an hour or so at the task.
It was cold work, fingers numbing once they got wet, but satisfying to do our bit. Sadly it's a job that's never completed.
