Boundary Dwellers

A birthday

My sister came down to be with Dad as we mark the first time without Mum on her birthday. Before we gathered to eat the birthday cake, she took her grandson Sorren off to town on the bus for a visit to the Childhood and National museums. On their return, they rootled about in the games cupboard and found some jigsaws, including this one gifted to my older son 25 years ago and still complete!

We had the cake on their return but without the ususl associated rituals of candles, singing and clapping the bithday years. Dad was a little sad at this so later on, with some cake remaining, we sang happy birthday again, clapped Mum's 96 years as Dad wished, and got Sorren to help blow out the candles.
