Cherry, cwm, and cuckoo

Sarah and Chris finished their event just after 1am this morning, in 6th and 7th place. I had been out to meet them when they passed the cottage at 12.30, but they didn’t stop to make small talk :-)

I slept really well and woke about 8.30 to find everyone else’s already up. Sarah and Chris, in the back bedroom, had been woken at 4.30 by the couple staying in the cottage next door - they were in their hot tub, playing loud techno. Sarah went out and asked them to be quiet.

After a leisurely breakfast we all went out for a walk, nothing too strenuous! I had wanted to visit a place called The Punchbowl, a cwm formed by a small glacier and now a wildlife reserve. (More about it here : www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/visiting-woods/woods/the-punchbowl/ In the photo you can see Luke and Maria approaching it and passing by the most beautiful wild cherry. We heard a cuckoo and then the unmistakable laughing call of a green woodpecker. Magical.

This evening after supper, we had another trip out in the canoe and a board game. It’s been such a wonderful place to spend a few days.
