Tute Hill motte.

Motte castles are medieval fortifications introduced into England by the Normans. They consisted of an earth mound with a wooden tower on top surrounded by a defensive wall or fence.

Tute Hill was constructed in the early 12th Century. It was superseded by the present Cockermouth Castle which has a commanding view over the river Derwent.

In the background you can see All Saint's Church spire.

The fabulous cherry blossom enhances the blip and provides a super frame for the photo.
