The Norwegian Church, Cardiff Bay

After breakfast we had a walk to the famous Norwegian Church on Cardiff Bay, founded in 1867 by the Norwegian Seamen’s Mission.

In the 19th Century, Norwegian ships brought timber for use as pit props in the South Wales coal mines to Cardiff, taking coal back to Norway in return.

As a result a number of Norwegians settled in Cardiff, including author Roald Dahl’s father who set up a ship booking business. The family worshipped at the church when it was on its original site. When it fell in to disrepair Dahl was involved in the campaign to have it moved to this current site and renovated.

We headed home late morning. Yesterday’s anniversary back blip here
