St. Ambrose

Our last morning in Milan, and we had time to visit the Castello Sforzesco; which - if you ever visit Milan - I urge you to take the time to visit.

It's not at all expensive - only 3 eros each, and given that Milan is one of the most expensive cities on earth, this Castello is, as the Rower said, one of the biggest bargains of all time.

It's massive, and houses some extraordinary treasures.

This is St. Ambrose, the patron saint of Milan, and this is his Standard, or banner.  It's two sided and measures 5 metres high and 3.5 metres wide.  Huge indeed, which is why there are two more versions in extras.

St. Ambrose looks as though he is about to walk out of the tapestry, and I looked really really closely at it, and the workmanship is so extraordinary, it gives it a 3-D effect.
