A very old house

Today we visited a few villages near Wallingford, Oxfordshire as our son is hoping to buy a house near Wallingford. This old thatched cottage, called The Barn, was in Brightwell cum Sotwell. There were quite a lot of thatched houses, well over 20 which have 16 or 17C origins. I think having one would be a nightmare for maintenance, insurance etc! The village has a good community village shop/ post office mainly run by volunteers but the inside of the church looked rather ‘unloved’. Next door to the church is Brightwell Manor…….Now the home of Boris Johnson!

We then drove through Dicot and stopped at Abingdon by the river Thames for a while. This seems a nice town which we will explore further next time. I collected a couple of leaflets and maps from the tourist information office.
We then collected our grandson from school and proceeded to their present rented house. They have now completed the sale of their previous house which is always a relief, so are in a good position to buy.
