Hornby Castle

We spent the morning strolling round the village and headland paths of Heysham on Lancashire’s coast, but drove into the Trough of Bowland to have lunch in the excellent Royal Oak pub in the picturesque village of Hornby.
We’d never visited previously, and after a delicious fish ‘n chip lunch, we walked it off by strolling to see the C13 castle (from a distance, it’s privately owned), and a look round St Margaret’s Church with its octagonal tower built in 1514.
