A Grand Day Out

It was a l-o-n-g day, hence the posting a day late.

The younger MacFreuchies and I treated the ex-chief Laird MacFreuchie to a special birthday outing to Fort William for a ride on the Jacobite Steam Railway to Mallaig. In recent years this train has been made more famous by the Harry Potter films.

On the outward journey we were unaware of passing over the famous 21-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct until it was too late, but on the return journey an announcement was made in advance, so all the keen photographers lined up at the suitable windows, and thanks to the engine-driver slowing down the train, we were all able to lean out, grab a couple of shots and get out the way for the person behind.

Unfortunately the weather forecast was correct and the entire day was dull, dreich and damp, but although sunshine would have been preferable, we all agreed that the rain and mist added a certain atmosphere, especially when driving through Glencoe.

Home very late, tired but happy that the day had been so enjoyable.
