Round bell tower

This rather phallic looking sandstone tower stands in the middle of Abernethy village. I believe it was a bell tower and is over 70' high, standing near to the local church. Several other towers like this exist in Ireland and another in Brechin, Scotland.
The Culdee monks who rang it wanted it to be heard over as big an area as possible, hence the size.
Marvellous structure with a superb view.
