Thrift

Thrift, or Armeria Maritima, as its proper name suggests, is often seen growing on cliff tops on the coast as it is salt spray tolerant. It is also a useful rockery plant, growing in poor, gritty well drained soil. It needs full sun.
Does anyone else remember it being depicted on the back of the old threepenny piece?
