black-tailed godwits

I don't know enough about black-tailed godwits to confidently identify the sexes, and the bird on the left doesn't appear to be in breeding plumage. I'm unsure about their behavior - they may have been engaged in a dispute. The end of a godwit’s bill is flexible, which helps them to search for their food, and by the look of it, it may also help them to grab hold of another bird.

There is a very small breeding population in the UK, but these birds and many others will soon be on their way to Iceland.
