A day of contrasts

Although we often plan our days we rarely stick to the plans! This morning we headed out to Hartland Point - but the road leading down there was closed so we drove back along where we had come from and found a little National Trust car park. From there we could walk down to part of the South West coast path and walk along to Hartland Point. It was such a lovely walk and one we had never done before.
Next we went to Hartland Abbey - a beautiful old house with an amazing walled garden. We walked round the garden but found the house didn’t open until the afternoon so we then drove down to Hartland Quay. This is such a dramatic bit of coastline with fantastic curves and cracks in the rock formation. Had some lunch here watching the waves.
Then back to Hartland Abbey to walk around the house. The book ‘Mallory Towers’ was filmed here along with many other famous films and dramas.
From there is a path down to a little cove called Childspit beach. Such a lovely walk with so many bluebells. We weren’t going to walk down there because JPs knee is quite painful but the lure of bluebells got the better of us!
