Final Morning Ride

A travelling day, but we at least got one more chance to ride out in the morning before starting our journey home mid afternoon.  We'd had to wait before allowing our horses to drink at this trough as the Cape buffalo were literally wallowing in it when we arrived.

This image does at least explain the benefit of riding in the reserve.  There is no way that we could get this close to wildebeest, especially their young, were we on foot, or even in a game vehicle.  The horses are accepted as part of the wildlife and it means we are not treated any differently when riding.

A three hour taxi ride back to Johannesburg Airport followed after a delicious stir fry lunch, then a wait for take off at 9 pm.

This has been a wonderful experience, topped by being able to join in with the animal captures over the preceding couple of days.  It started cool and cloudy, but got hotter over the weekend.  We met some lovely guests, who we shared many great moments over the week.

The team at the resort work so hard to make these days special.  We ate like kings and queens, tasting ostrich for the first time (a lot like beef), there was always someone on hand to look after us.  The guides and young volunteers go out of their way to make sure we can enjoy the rides, game drives and other activities.  There's always a danger in going back to a holiday location you've experienced before.  Sometimes the second time can suffer by comparison, but if anything this exceeded what happened last time.  Our thanks to the owner Ant, his fiancee Sarah and the teams.
