RAIA Headquarters

Almost at the end of the Heritage Festival now, we finished off at the hq of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, which is heritage listed.

Two ironies. 1) It’s on such an expensive piece of property, exorbitant rates make it hard for them to preserve the building. 2) It was built at a time when little attention was paid to the correct orientation of buildings.

An interesting tour, learning lots about mid century architecture in Canberra. Inside were a couple of dimly lit exhibitions on the lost buildings of Canberra, I liked the red architectural photos best so one extra shows part of the RAIA building in similar style.
