St. Anthony of Padua

In the Padua Basilica's central niche there is a splendid reliquary for Saint Anthony. The Franciscan saint known around the world as St. Anthony of Padua was not born in the Italian city of Padua but in Lisbon, Portugal.

The first Extra shows Goethe's palm in the Padua Botanic Gardens next to the Basilica. It has been known as Goethe’s Palm since the poet, after observing it in 1786, was inspired to describe his evolutionary theory in his "Essay on the Metamorphosis of Plants", published in 1790. It is now protected in a special glass enclosure.

The second extra shows part of the ceiling of the The Basilica of St. Anthony. The place was very busy with visitors today. The Basilica was completed in 1310.

Paladian and I were standing very much side by side in the Basilica, taking near identical photos. My 2 church photos were actually taken by her with the Pixel 8 Pro.
