Sgwarnog: In the Field

Feasting

The weather has made it a quiet start for the butterfly year for me so far, with sightings on only eleven different days during March and April to date. Hopefully a bit more warmth and sunshine will be around the corner.

This Small Tortoiseshell was one of two feasting on the mass of dandelions to be found on Monument Moor. I also saw one Speckled Wood in the park across the road.

Later, I was back down in the Live Room in Saltaire for a set from Son of Town Hall, a trans-Atlantic acoustic folk duo who perform in character as kind of Victorian, out of time, seafaring vagabonds. Personally I found the cabaret aspect wore thin after a while, but the quality of songs, harmonising and musicianship was high throughout, and I’d still recommend them. Their tour continues in Manchester, Sheffield, Cambridge, Cardiff, London, Didcot, Rhayader, Salisbury and Portsmouth.
