The bings of West Calder

With my son at a martial arts seminar, I’ve been wandering around the home of paraffin - Polbeth - and it’s neighbour West Calder. This bridge, over a now gone railway, I’m assuming took the slag from the mine which then was taken by rail (see the cutting still visible) to form that bing (slag heap). Loads of them around this area, once mined heavily for shale gas, oil, and coal.
