Trip North and East out of Berlin to attend the exhibition opening of a fellow ampler, Peter Krabbe (see extra). The last 8km involved a lovely bike ride along an old railway track. I was seriously tempted to keep going as it would have taken me to the river Oder and the border to Poland. Another day.

We haven't made it into the countryside that often so far. It is always quite surprising how unurban and rather nice it is. The trains were fairly packed with people and bikes. On the way out, I shared my car with 15 other bikes and their cyclists. I took the train to Eberswalde, then the NEB Express to Wriezen. Express is a bit of an overstatement, as it slowly trundled through the very flat landscape of the Oderbruch. Wriezen features quite a lot of Platte, the uniform prefab concrete buildings of socialist East Germany. There were also some nice old industrial brick buildings.

The exhibition is in in an old 18th century building in a small village with rather lovely garden. We were treated to music from the Südkreuz String Quartet.

The weather was glorious, I only had to get a day ticket for my bike. Really need to get out a little more. There is some wonderful countryside to explore.

Some more pictures from the Oderbruch on flickr.
