In 1890 this book was presented to my great grandfather, no doubt as a token of thanks for his medical services. The very title, Musings in Maoriland, suggests a potential attitude towards the Maori one might not expect from a Pakeha (white person) back then, and the poetic contents show respect and admiration for the Maori people whilst not downplaying their differences and the tensions that arose. Quite an heirloom.
