Maintenance

The fountains in Trafalgar Square were getting a bit of TLC this morning. I was on my way to the "Vermeer and Music" exhibition in the National Gallery. I am a Friend of a baroque instrument orchestra called the Academy of Ancient Music who are playing 3 days a week inside the exhibition. This morning there was a viola de gamba player and a harpsichordist playing Dutch music written in the time of Vermeer. It really brings the exhibition to life!

The City of London Festival is in full swing. Last night I went to the first of Benjamin Britten's three church parables, Curlew River, in Southwark Cathedral. The other two, The Prodigal Son and The Burning Fiery Furnace are tonight. It's great seeing them in a church as they are staged as if they are miracle plays performed by monks. The acoustics are perfect and the smell of incense authentic. But before that, this afternoon the beer festival kicks off in Guildhall Yard :-))

P.S. If anyone would like to see more photos from the dome of St Paul's, I've posted a link here.
