Sally Mair - Loving life

What, no Amazons?

I slept well last night so was down to breakfast at a reasonable hour. There are often swallows on the wires outside the breakfast room, but these looked rather more colourful than the usual variety. On checking I find they are called Barn Swallows. Their colouring is beautiful. The one in my thumbnail amused me. It was giving itself such a thorough cleansing it was hard to work out where its head had gone and where tail began and wing ended.
There are also many swifts nesting on the hotel buildings and a large number of beautiful jays showing their predative traits. When the alarm goes up that a jay is around, the swifts move into mobbing mode as a very effective group to see them off.
I've been swimming every day and the pool is definitely getting warmer. Today was the last of our quiet days though. 100 more people are arriving overnight which will reduce the wonderful level of personal service we've been receiving which has been very enjoyable. Up until now there has been a real family companionship amongst who are here. This can't help but change.
This evening we decided that the evening entertainment was not for us and came upstairs early only to hear some music from the stage area as we were settling in for an early night. We went out to see what was happening to find the stage area lit up and the hotel chef standing with a trolley at the front of the stage, he lit a couple of fireworks and threw rose petals into the crowd. There was then an announcement that we were celebrating May day with a special cake then the hotel staff were going to dance for us.
I was sorry not to be down there but we got a good view from our room... And I don't need extra cake. It was lovely to see and again a very nice atmosphere. Extra
