Wanderings and meanders

Chetham's Library

Manchester

P came to join us today. We had a look at the Cathedral and some local art and craft work, before joining a tour of Chetham's library. The oldest building in Manchester and home to some serious reading. Originally the books were on chains and readers would apparently sit on the stools at the end of the shelves to read, later readers were shut inside with the books.

We had a quick look in Manchester Art Gallery and there was tea before P had to head away.

Later MK and I headed out to the Lowry to see 42 balloons. In 1982 a guy called Larry put himself in a lawn chair with 42 weather balloons... "And you can tell your friends about it, they'll say that's pretty crazy, why did you go see a musical about balloons..."
