Finally

Kinneil House and estate, beside Bo’ness in Central Scotland was my playground in the 1960s. My Grandparents lived in a cottage attached to the walled garden beside the Big Hoose, at that time the house was all but derelict. Today J and I went for a guided tour of the interior of the house which is now in the hands of Historic Environment Scotland. The building was in the process of being demolished in the 1930s during which panelling was removed in two of the rooms ,uncovering murals decorating floor to ceiling on all four walls, they are a mix of biblical stories, family coats of arms and mythical animals. This find saved the building from complete demolition and after a number of years slowly deteriorating moves were made to restore this very important but little known house.
