The Cocoon

Had a little bit of time spare in London this afternoon for a brief wander into the Natural History Museum. Hadn't visiting the ultra-modern concrete cocoon that is the Darwin Centre before - fascinating both scientifically and architecturally. The blip is looking up to the entrance bridge on the seventh floor of the building.

Well worth a visit.

Main purpose of my London trip was the UK premiere of The Last Ocean - an inspiring documentary about the attempts to establish a Marine Protection Area covering the Ross Sea in Antarctica - the only ocean that hasn't yet been really badly impacted by human activities (primarily fishing). If you get a chance to see the film do take it - it is also now available on a variety of online sites. I suspect/hope this is going to be in the news over the next few weeks, there is an international meeting in Germany later this month which might (just might) agree to an MPA. The film's director was asked this evening what we (in the audience) could do to promote the cause. One of the suggestions (which is more relevant to US folks) was to not eat Chilean Sea Bass. It's not from Chile and it's not Sea Bass, it's actually Antarctica Toothfish and it's a critical part of the Antarctic food chain.
