Changing wheels

11, 18, 19 April; these are days in previous years when I blipped the annual ritual of switching from winter to summer tyres. But this year Mid-April came and went and there was still plenty of snow and ice, and the weather stayed cold. It's still not hugely warm but the snow has eventually melted and as "winter conditions" no longer apply the law says we shouldn't have winter tyres on the car.
The forecast is for a little snow or rain in the near future so today was a good day to do the job. The weather was sunny, the ground was dry, and the tyres were relatively clean. As you see in the photo Rusty was helping. Despite his help (a quick bit of face licking) the job went reasonably well.
At the same time I was preparing a sourdough for baking tomorrow, so I changed one wheel and then went in to do some kneading, came out changed another wheel, and repeated the process. It's slightly easier on the back to break up the task like this.
Later on in the afternoon we handed over the camper van for its service and a few small jobs while it is in the workshop. The season is starting...
I'd left the sourdough to double in size and now, some hours later, it reached the line. I shaped it, and dropped it into a banneton basket for its final, and cold, proofing. The banneton is in a plastic box out on the doorstep for the night, where it is currently -4°C. This is a little too cold (!) as it should be at 2 to 4°C but I'll leave it to warm up a little before baking in the morning. All part of the fun of working with a natural process! And npw it's on the way to midnight so I'll sign off and say goodnight!
