Isle of May, Firth of Forth

We'd booked months in advance to take the boat trip to the Isle of May with the intention of photographing puffin. We were lucky with the weather as we travelled in an inflatable speed boat and as we bounced across the waves were glad it was pretty calm! The puffin were there but not in great numbers and at the time it was uncertain whether this was due to avian flu or not. They normally expect 46,000 pairs. Another interesting fact is that they have recorded 319 different species of bird on the island over the years, which I find quite impressive! Unfortunately it was too early for there to be young to feed. The photo in extras is of a razorbill.
