Abbey Gatehouse, Bristol

After yesterday's drizzle and cloud, a brilliant summer day. Saw the foot-specialist and picked up the new orthotic wonder-trainers, and am going out for my first run in two years later today. They are amazing.

On the way home I cycled past this, catching the summer sun...

East elevation of the Great Gatehouse on College Green, immediately adjacent to the west end of the Cathedral. Earliest parts of this date from the 1100's; the rest of it c.1500. It has a lovely carved archway but that was in shade at this time of day.

I liked the light playing on the stonework, and the fun you can have with filters darkening the western sky when the sun is in the east.
